Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The new division is Europes number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy for a System Software Architect has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. The Engineering technical unit for Data Processing OnBoard Software comprise departments in UK, France and Germany. The function of the technical unit is to provide a central competence that supports the evolving needs of the business, working on space systems, satellite platforms, payloads and equipment. As part of the UKs On Board Software Department, the successful candidate will work in direct support to the Software development team that is geared towards the overall functional avionic delivery to the Business Units Project Office. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Monitoring and reporting of progress and status of all software related activities to the Programme Management team and Department management team. Coengineering discussions with other system architects Operations, FDIR, Thermal, Power, AOCS, Functional Validation, etc in order to shape software requirements cost and schedule to meet project needs. Organising and leading software technical meetings and key software reviews. Technical definition and review of all inputs to the software development team Airbus Defence Space internal Software Department, plus subcontractors. Notably, to identify, collate and consolidate all software user requirements. Identification of data interface exchange needs and software interfaces with the other projects components. Supervision of the overall cycle of the software development and verification specification, design, coding, unit tests, integration tests, verification tests. Preparation and support all related reviews with ESA. In coordination with the Engineering team of the projects, managing the changes of the software requirements through the software life cycle, defining the new versions of the software and the schedulecosts consequences. In coordination with the project anomalies manager and the software QA, managing the anomalies found in the software through the software life cycle, defining the new versions of the software and the schedulecosts consequences. Controlling project budget and schedule, defining risks and risks mitigation strategies. ISVV technical subcontracts management technical review of the ISVV subcontractors inputs, outputs and coordination control of ISVV feedback to the software subcontractors. Defining the maintenance concepts for the software. Participate, as required, in technical proposals in response to ITTs. Participate, as appropriate in ongoing implementation of transnational harmonisation of software tools, methods processes, or improvement actions. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience SystemSoftwareAerospace Engineering degree or Master. Extensive experience in Embedded Software engineering domain. Experience in the SatelliteSpace or avionics industry. Proven experience in defining and managing System Software needs and requirements including operational and fault detection, isolation and recovery mechanisms. Customer facing experience capability. Good knowledge about the technical followup and the software team management. Good knowledge about estimating cost of software development. Knowledge of nonsoftware functional areas hardware, electrical etc Knowledge of the test means validation test means, simulators,.. Excellent understanding of embedded realtime systemssoftware engineering. Good practical understanding of software engineering lifecycle process. Experience using DOORS or other requirements management tools. Excellent communication, written oral fluency in English Excellent presentation skills Team leadership skills.
