This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at ESTEC in Noordwijk in The Netherlands. System and Software Engineer 1811015 Job Description We are looking for a System and Software Engineer for our client ESTEC. As part of the System team of Small Satellite or Cubesat project, you will be responsible for the activities related to System Avionics, System Software and System Communication from early definition phase through to implementation phase and launchoperations phase. Your tasks will include Maintain interfaces with the relevant Prime contractors or subsystem responsibles industryresearch institute for the assigned projects. Support system and subsystem reviews of the assigned projects and ad hoc support. Follow up on technical issues arising on the assigned projects and participate in risk reduction activities. Help defining operations and support the inorbit commissioning phase of the projects. Support development contracts regarding the above areas, as the activity technical responsible. Participate in progress meetings and reviews, as requested, and provide appropriate feedback on the achieved progress and results. Development and application incl. Educational of System Engineering tools and models. Provide support to technical coordination activities. Required Skills and Experience At least four years professional experience in a relevant position. Expert knowledge of System and more specifically to avionics, software and communication subsystems through the complete lifecycle including mission designoperations, systems design AIV, subsystem technologiesproducts. Knowledge of experience in the practical application of tailored engineeringquality standards to Small Satellite, OD missions and CubeSat projects would be an asset. Expert knowledge of SC system and mission design, incl. system design modelling tools and Concurrent Engineering applied to space mission assessment and design. Knowledge of System of Systems SoS architecting and related tools such as System Architect, Focal Point, etc. and frameworks e.g. MODAF, TOGAF. Knowledge and practice in the application of ESA SE Standards e.g. ECSSE10 series and SW engineering. Position Reference 438 You will have the opportunity to engineering support to the Mechanisms Section at the European Space Agency. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Mechanisms support to all ESA project directorates with respect to the implementation of space mechanism technologies in current and future missions, including configuration assessments and mission performance evaluation Establishment of Statement of Work and Preliminary Requirement Specifications for Mechanism Systems, Individual Mechanisms or Mechanism components dedicated to Technology and Research Development. Perform and support in the role of Mechanism engineer, System Level Mission Definition studies and system conceptual design activities in support of the ESA long termfuture mission plans. Identification of enabling mechanism and tribological technologies for future ESA missions. Support investigations of mechanisms being out of performance, including malfunctions and contingency scenarios. Support and contribute to the establishment and maintenance of the Space Mechanisms ECSS Engineering Standards. Generation and setup of appropriate space mechanisms analysis and simulation models using analysis tools based on technical documentation of space mechanisms. Back up and archiving of analysis models for later retrieval. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory You have PhD or Msc Engineering from a recognised Institution of secondary studies University, Ecole suprieure, etc. or equivalent. You have good knowledge of ECSSEST3301CRev.1 Mechanisms. You have good knowledge of ESA and its programmesprojects. Selfmotivation, communication, continuous learning, crosscultural sensitivity. Our Marine Applications Competence Area MACA is responsible for the scientific development, maintenance, validation and quality monitoring of marine and ocean products extracted from satellite instrument chains. This influential role, Martine Applications Competence Area Manager, provides a great opportunity for an established remote sensing expert to manage the MACA team and its resources and to lead the development of the scientific knowledge required to support the exploitation and evolution of EUMETSAT and Copernicus instrument chains. The ideal candidate is an experienced scientist who is an expert in the remote sensing and processing of data from relevant spacebourne marine remote sensing missions, preferably in an operational 247 environment. With experience of calibrating marine remote sensing instruments, developing and coding operational remote sensing software, you can initiate and lead relevant scientific studies. You must be a team player, with the ability to collaborate with your colleagues and our international partners. You must have strong analytical skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to our user communities. Experience of writing scientific and technical documents is an advantage, along with a familiarity of the Copernicus Programme.
