T-Mobile US starts mobile money service

2014-01-22 08:57:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) T-Mobile US is introducing a mobile money service. Mobile Money by T-Mobile is based on a prepaid Visa card and smartphone app to manage the account. It offers many of the features of a traditional checking account and back card, with reduced or no fees, the operator said. There are no charges for activation, monthly maintenance, in-network ATM withdrawals, or for replacing lost or stolen cards. No minimum balances are required either. Mobile Money lets customers direct deposit paychecks, deposit checks from capable smartphone cameras, make retail purchases, pay bills and withdraw cash from more than 42,000 ATMs nationwide with no fees. T-Mobile said the service offers "a sensible and affordable alternative to checking fees for the roughly 68 million US adults who do not have traditional accounts and have to rely on alternative financial services". Customers can register for the card at the T-Mobile Mobile Money website and cards will also be available in T-Mobile shops and Safeway stores in the US in February. The card is issued by Bancorp Bank.
