The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of such systems and of related onboard equipment such as transponders operating in UHF, S, X or Ka bands. TTC and interorbit communication systems and equipment for near Earth applications and commercial satellites. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of communication systems and of onboard equipment including transponders making use of spread spectrum techniques and operating in the S, C, X and Ka bands. Specific tasks to be performed A diverse range of support tasks is required to be carried out by the contractor within the above domains. These can be grouped within the following main headings Support on mission analysis and TTC related issues. Participation to the Concurrent Design Facility work. Studies and analyses of techniques and technologies for telecommunications systems. Technical support for the development of TTC equipment and subsystems. Simulation and testing in laboratory of TTC systems and equipment. Generation of technical requirements and statements of work for TTC related activities. Technical support for standardization activity in the frame of European ECSS and CCSDS. Support to ESA projects from early conceptual phase to launch preparation. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required Design of telecommunication systems and equipment with good understanding of modulation and demodulation techniques. Good capability using simulation tools. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Be able to work autonomously as well as in a team environment. Some knowhow in satellite TTC systems and equipment for near earth andor deep space applications. Good understanding of the technologies used in radio equipment VLSI, ASIC,MMIC, including knowledge of ASICs development tools VHDL. Applicants should have a Master degree in Telecommunication or Electrical engineering, complemented with some years of work experience in the field of telecommunication systems. Knowledge of modern computer systems, programming languages, telecommunication standards particularly in the area of TTC and Telemetry, digital signal processing theory applied to communication systems and simulation tools is required. Familiarity with TTC transponders and other spacecraft subsystems technology design and testing is also an asset. Some knowhow in encryption and secure communications and knowledge of satellite telecommunication systems based on optical technology. The European Space Agency ESA has sites in several European countries. The European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC is the largest site and the technical heart of ESA. This nursery of European space activities is located in Noordwijk, Netherlands. At ESTEC, about 2500 engineers, technicians and scientists work handson with mission design, spacecraft and space technology. Almost all ESA projects except launchers are managed from ESTEC. In Noordwijk, people work on science missions, manned space missions, Earth observation, telecommunications and navigation satellites. ESTEC provides extensive testing facilities to verify the proper operation of spacecraft, such as the Large Space Simulator LSS, acoustic and electromagnetic testing bays, multiaxis vibration tables and the ESA Propulsion Laboratory EPL.
