Deadline 17 July 2017 Client and Location For one of our main customers ESAESTEC, we are currently looking for a biology scientist who will give support to the Biology Environment Monitoring Science Office, onsite at ESTEC. The Biology and Environmental Monitoring Science Office is responsible for inputs to programmatic and strategic planning, and the endtoend science coordination of projects in the areas of Biology, Exobiology and selected Climate Change experiment studies on the International Space Station ISS. The research focus and objectives of this element of the programme until 2024 was recently defined in roadmaps formulated with the research community, which address key scientific topics relevant to Human Space Exploration and issues of Societal and Economic importance. The key theme areas in the Biology and exobiology domain include Astrobiology, Understanding the impact of gravity on biological processes, supporting life in hostile environments. In addition, cosmic radiation is a cross discipline theme that includes biological, human physiology and physics aspects. The current research project portfolio includes over 40 science projects at various stages of implementation, with approximately 400 science team members from across European as well as worldwide. These projects were selected through ESA and international announcements of opportunity and are implemented on the full range of flight and ground platforms available in the programme, including ISS, sounding rocket, parabolic flight and ground based facilities. It is anticipated that these projects will address many of the key questions identified in the science roadmaps.
