Area experts say jobs in the agriculture industry will open up in Northern New York and across the country, but more college graduates will be needed to fill them. Nearly 60,000 jobs are projected to open in agriculture, food and natural resource industries each year for the next five years in the U.S. for graduates with at least a bachelor's degree in those areas, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Purdue University.

Third-quarter home sales lag in Jefferson County, climb in Lewis and St. Lawrence

Real estate agents sold fewer homes during the third quarter in Jefferson County than the same period a year ago, while sales climbed in Lewis and St. Lawrence counties. Lance M. Evans, executive officer of the Jefferson-Lewis Board of Realtors, said home sales have dropped in the third quarter and year to date in Jefferson County, where an influx of new apartment complexes in recent years has contributed to the trend.
Kemper power plant overruns climb another $62 million

Auto makers posted modest gains in November U.S. auto sales as Black Friday deals against a favorable economic backdrop helped buoy a traditionally sluggish month damped by fewer selling days. Car sales are on track to reach their highest November sales volume since 2001, and analysts say that the month's tally will indicate whether 2015 could set the all-time annual record.
