Intels Thunderbolt 3 offers USB compatibility at full Thunderbolt speed
2015-06-02 22:49:03| Extremetech
Thunderbolt or USB 3? Thanks to Intel's latest Alpine Ridge controller, there won't be a need to split the difference in the future. Why settle for one when you can have both on a single piece of silicon?

Able to switch automatically between full-speed (12 Mbps) and low-speed (1.5 Mbps) operation as required, NMUSB202MC, provides dual port USB data and power isolation from single upstream port. This module, used in conjunction with host controller, counts as 2 USB hubs for cascaded applications and provides full 5 V/500 mA power to each downstream port. Reinforced isolation of 250 VRMS provides safety and EMI immunity while also eliminating ground loops.

Aimed at industrial control applications, Model NMUSB202MC provides dual port USB data and power isolation from single upstream port with full 500 mA power available from each port. Surface mount unit can automatically switch between 1.5 Mbps and 12 Mbps, as application requires. Used with host controller, single module counts as 2 USB hubs for cascaded applications, while providing immunity to EMI. Safety isolation barrier meets requirements of 250 Vac systems in IT and medical environments.

Like routers, most USB modems also vulnerable to drive-by hacking
2015-05-28 21:12:40| Wireless - Topix.net
The majority of 3G and 4G USB modems offered by mobile operators to their customers have vulnerabilities in their Web-based management interfaces that could be exploited remotely when users visit compromised websites. The flaws could allow attackers to steal or manipulate text messages, contacts, Wi-Fi settings or the DNS configuration of affected modems, but also to execute arbitrary commands on their underlying operating systems.

USB 3.1 Connectors provide up to 10,000 plug cycles.
2015-05-26 14:31:04| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today
Supporting 10 Gbps transmission rate, USB 3.1 Series includes USB type C plug, in which upper and lower sides are identical, so there is no need to pay attention to orientation of plug in connection. Type C also supports charging of batteries with power levels up to 100 W. All USB 3.1 connectors and cable assemblies are plated with nickel-palladium and gold to ensure high transmission quality. Depending on type, board connectors are packaged in reels or trays.
