RHEA is currently recruiting a Calibration Validation Engineer to support the calibration and validation of level 1 data products from the GOME2 instruments on the Polar System series of satellites. Please note that this position will be based at our clients premises in Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks and Activities Your primary tasks and activities may include Analysing inflight calibration performance of the GOME2 instruments on MetopA and MetopB Evaluating the applicability of the onground characterisation key data to the inorbit situation of GOME2 including radiometric and polarisation sensitivity key data including angular dependencies Analysing the longterm degradation signatures on GOME2, including from all inflight calibration sources, sun and earthshine data Evaluating methods for generation of degradation factors Crosscalibrating and validating of level 1 radiance and polarisation data both with instruments of a similar class and GOME2 instruments on MetopA and MetopB Developing software for the purposes of analysing the inflight calibration performance and longterm degradation performance of the GOME2 instrument Investigating problems indicated by feedback from level 1 users Developing software for crosscalibration and validation activities Testing and validating the algorithms and analysing procedures developed Provisioning support for longterm instrument monitoring and implementation and validation of the any proposed inorbit corrections within the operational processing environment Interfacing with experts across our clients organisation as needed Collaborating with expert groups and the wider scientific community as appropriate Skills and Experience You must possess the following skills and experience University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline At least 5 years experience in the field of remote sensing product data analysis including at least 2 years of experience of UVVisible calibration and validation Experience in remote sensing data analysis using UVVisible satellite data Experience with calibration of level 0 and validation of level 1 satellite data products Capability to use of vector radiative transfer models Experience with the GOME2 mission and instrument Ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports Demonstrated skills in a higher programming language Capability to work with UNIX andor Linux operating systems Experience in specification, design and coding of complex product processors Knowledge of testing and verification of complex data processing systems Familiarity with satellite instrument characteristics for Earth observation, in particular calibration and validation of moderate spectral resolution data in the UVVisible part of the spectrum Ability to write concise and comprehensive scientific and technical reports Ability to work effectively in English The following skills would be highly desirable. GOME2 Level 1 Calibration Validation Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities Our customer is a European organisation providing weather and climaterelated satellite data, images and products for its users.
