Flight Dynamics Engineer Solar OrbiterRSP Command Generation 2023011 Job Description We are looking for a Flight Dynamics Operations Engineer for our client ESOC. Your primary areas of responsibility will be the Command Generation for Science Missions but you may also be requested to assume the responsibility and perform activities for additional service, missions and activities. The main missions you will be supporting are EXOMARS RSP and Solar Orbiter. You may also be asked to support GAIA, Bepi Colombo, Mars Express, ExoMars TGO, Juice and Euclid. The general activities to be supported are depending on the phase of the mission Command Generation Execution of and support to operational tasks Generation of task related command parameters Generation of task related reports Mission Planning Support Execution of and support to operational tasks Generation of mission planning related products, such as schedules and planning input Flight Dynamics Application Layer Maintenance of elements of the Flight Dynamics Application Layer Flight Dynamics System Development Specification of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements Implementation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements Installation of modifications, enhancements and additions to existing software elements on operational platforms design, coordination and implementation of tests Participation in tests Setup procedures Flight Dynamics SubSystem configuration Coordination of internal and external interfaces and actitivities across subsystems General Flight Dynamics operations engineering activities Required Skills and Experience University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics. You shall have very good skills in the following fields Linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3 dimensional space Being familiar with different representations of rotation in 3D, thus including the representation of SC attitude cosine direction matrix, Euler symmetric parameters quaternions, Eulerangles ... is an asset. Calculus in one or several variables Numerical methods for equations solving integration of differential equations function approximation and interpolation optimisation linear algebra problems Classical mechanics, including kinematics and dynamics of point masses dynamics of rigid body dynamics expressed in noninertial frames conservation laws in mechanics gravitational forces and field orbit dynamics, keplerian orbits and Kepler laws Ability to solve mechanics problems via analytical mechanics methods e.g. lagrangian formulation is a valuable asset. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts. Ability to define, implement, validate and operate software which applies the above solutions, using C as main programming language knowledge of UnixLinux, scripting languages and Fortran 77952003 is a valuable an asset. Will to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Fluency in English, both in speech and writing. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. Desirable Skills and Experience Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Familiarityexperience with Flight Dynamics operations engineering tasks. Experience dealing with external interfaces. Experience with Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration The ability to multitask efficiently working on multiple activities, multiple subsystems and if applicable multiple missions simultaneously. ResponsibilitiesDuties You are passionate about space flight dynamics and looking for a meaningful opportunity to enfold your talents? Then you are on the right track! We are supporting the European Space Agency with highly qualified services at the European Operations Control Centre ESOC in Darmstadt. For a new service position within flight dynamics division we are searching for a flight dynamics authority to complement our international service team! You will support and execute operational tasks within the Command Generation section for interplanetary missions. This includes the generation of command parameters as well as the writing of reports. Besides, you will contribute to mission planning and build related products such as mission schedules and budget calculations. In addition, you will specify and implement improvements and additions to existing software elements for computation of the dynamical behaviour of satellites, typically on Linux workstations using FORTRAN. You will install the software on the operational platforms and design, coordinate and perform the testing. Furthermore you will participate in system tests and mission simulation campaigns, contribute to space studies with the evaluation of flight dynamics aspects, and coordinate internal and external interfaces and activities across subsystems. Essential Skills The ideal candidate we are looking for contributes to our service team with the following characteristics An outstanding expertise in linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Skills in numerical methods for equations solving, integration of differential equations, function approximation and interpolation, optimisation, and linear algebra problems.
