South Africa opens applications for new mobile spectrum

(Telecompaper) The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) announced it will publish the long-awaited invitations to apply for the licensing of the Wireless Open Access Network (Woan) and new mobile network spectrum no later than 02 October. The regulator plans to make available 406 MHz of spectrum for the provision of mobile broadband services in South Africa, with an auction expected to take place in early 2021.

French operators start bidding in 5G spectrum auction

(Telecompaper) The final stage of the French 5G tender will be starting on 29 September, Arcep president Sebastien Soriano confirmed to national radio. The process is resuming after the delay caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, and follows the completion of the first phase of the tender, in which Bouygues Telecom, Free Mobile, Orange and SFR each acquired a 50 MHz block of 3.5 GHz spectrum.

Telecom Egypt submits offer to NTRA for more spectrum
