French spectrum agency launches live data tool on radiation near 5G sites

(Telecompaper) France's spectrum agency ANFR announced the availability of a new website that publishes live data on radio frequency (RF) exposure in the vicinity of cell sites taking part in 5G pilots. The strength of the exposure, measured in volts per metre (V/m), is constantly assessed using a number of recently installed autonomous sensors. Marseille and Nantes are the first cities participating in the project, with more installations in other locations across the country expected in the coming weeks.

Vodafone starts 5G network in half of the Netherlands, via own 1800 MHz spectrum

(Telecompaper) Vodafone has launched its 5G network across half of the Netherlands, with full coverage expected for end-July. All Vodafone customers with a suitable device and subscription will be able to use 5G in the coverage area within the week.

T-Mobile opens up network to Sprint customers, adds mid-band spectrum to boost 5G coverage

(Telecompaper) T-Mobile US is getting started with the integration of Sprint, after closing the acquisition at the start of this month. The company announced the deployment of Sprint's 2.5 GHz spectrum already on its network, helping expand its 5G coverage. The T-Mobile network also will be opened up to Sprint customers for roaming.

MTN, Vodacom and Telkom get extra spectrum to meet data demand during lockdown

(Telecompaper) The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has granted MTN, Vodacom and Telkom emergency spectrum to deal with an increase in data demand during the coronavirus outbreak. ICASA said it considered applications for temporary radio frequency spectrum assignments in the 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz bands, including the use of television white spaces (TVWS), in an effort to ensure connectivity during the National State of Disaster.
