Are human head transplants possible?

A bold project has just been announced which seeks to acheive the first human head transplant. Code-named HEAVEN, for Head Anastomosis Venture with Cord Fusion, the effort is being led by Dr. Sergio Canavero, from Turin, Italy. In a new paper published in the open-access journal, Surgical Neurology International, Canavero claims that many technical hurdles to successful transplantation have now been cleared.
