On August 26, Monsanto finally blew off the takeover of Syngenta after an improved proposal was rejected again by the Swiss company. The offer which included a higher cash component valued Syngenta at 470 Swiss francs per share, 40% higher than today's price after all the gains since Monsanto's interest became public, vaporized.

Syngenta new products aim for $6 billion in sales

Syngenta AG moved to further placate investors upset by the pesticide maker's resistance to Monsanto Co's takeover overtures by announcing a pipeline of new products with sales potential of more than $6 billion. Basel-based Syngenta said it had 15 new and products under developments in crop protection that "will further accelerate value creation and extend the company's industry leading position."

The world's top seller of pesticides last month rejected Monsanto's sweetened takeover offer, saying the price was too low and would face still resistance from regulators. In a statement Thursday Basel-based Syngenta said it plans to "accelerate shareholder value creation" including the sale of its global high-margin vegetables seeds business, which "should attract significant third-party interest."
