At its October 22 event in San Francisco, Apple has surprised no one by releasing an iPad Mini with Retina display. It is available to preorder today, with a release date "later in November." The base 16GB WiFi iPad Mini will cost $400, with cellular models starting at $530. Like the iPad Air, it will come in either space gray and silver. The original iPad Mini (without a Retina display) will continue to be sold, but starting at a lower price point of $300.

In Apple's special October 22 event in San Francisco, the company has unveiled the iPad Air. It is significantly thinner and lighter than the fourth-generation iPad, and looks a lot like a larger iPad Mini. It replaces the fourth-gen iPad completely, will be priced at $500, and will be released on November 1.
