Broadcom buys Symantec enterprise security business for USD 10.7 billion

(Telecompaper) Broadcom has agreed to acquire the enterprise security business of Symantec for USD 10.7 billion cash. This gives the company rights to the Symantec brand name and a full range of cybersecurity products for the business market. Symantec will continue with its consumer software business under the Norton name.

EU launches formal probe into Broadcom exclusivity deals in STB, modem chips market

(Telecompaper) The European Commission has confirmed the start of a formal antitrust investigation into whether Broadcom may be restricting competition through exclusivity practices in sales of its set-top box and modem chipsets. The Commission said initial investigations show the competition violations are serious enough to warrant interim measures against the company until it reaches a final decision in the case.

Broadcom lowers FY guidance by USD 2 bln on export restrictions

(Telecompaper) Broadcom reported higher revenues but lower profit in the second quarter, and reduced its full year revenue outlook by USD 2 billion on "anticipated headwinds from wireless." CEO Hock Tan said demand is down on the back of continued geopolitical uncertainties and the effects of export restrictions at one of the company's largest companies. During a call with analysts, Tan noted that 4.3 percent of Broadcom's revenues for its fiscal year to November came from Huawei, or about USD 900 million, the Wall Street Journal reported.
