Bangladesh has become the largest supplier of the European Union in knit clothing categories in volume, but also in value terms. China is rapidly losing ground in most categories of products, due to a rise of its unit prices. Competitors of both suppliers have less benefited form China's steback than Bangladesh with result being very differetn depending on categories and origins, as usual. EU's clothing imports have moved into very different ways in the second quarter and the first half this year, depending on markets. When unit values of clothing imports have surged, like in Spain or the UK, shipments in volume terms have dropped. In France by contrast, lower unit prices have resulted in significantly larger shipments from a year earlier. Our 5-year data from second quarter 2013 reflect long-term trends of European Union clothing markets, offering a comprehensive review of the European Union imports per destination. T-shirt and pullover imports to the European Union have recovered in the second quarter this year from the same period in 2017, partly due to significantly lower prices in exporting countries, in euro terms. Suit and trouser categories have also been strong whereas other HS import categories have ignored the overall rebound. Statistical tables are published with volume, value and unit value changes in euro and US$ terms, covering 61 and 62 HS chapters (knit and woven clothing).
