US apparel imports have been relatively flat in the first quarter with China however rebounding thanks to a new fall of its unit prices. Other origins have got very different results depending on product categories as usual, with a rise of unit values resulting in lower sales in volume terms. Our series of statistical tables offer a comprehensive comparison of volume, value and unit value changes per origin and product category in 1st quarter 2017 and 1st quarter 2018. The report also includes a detailed comparison of Chinese price trends vs other origins, through a series of indexes. Imports have sharply rebounded to the European Union in the first quarter over a fall of unit prices due to a rebound of the European currencies against the US dollar. Product categories have behaved in very different ways, with T-shirts stagnating for instance whereas shipments of pullovers were surging.
