Apple agrees to pay EUR 25 mln regulatory fine in France over iPhone software updates

(Telecompaper) The DGCCRF, France's anti-fraud and consumer protection agency, said that Apple has agreed to pay a EUR 25 million fine in a legal settlement. This follows an investigation into the company after a complaint from a consumer association, filed in January 2018. The probe focused on the accusation that in 2017, Apple failed to inform customers that the performance of their iPhones could slow down because of software updates to manage battery power demands.
Disney+ attracts 28.6 mln subscribers in 3 months, to launch in India through Hotstar

(Telecompaper) The Disney+ streaming service has attracted 28.6 million paid subscribers in the three months since launch on 12 November, Disney announced. For ESPN+ and Hulu, the number of paid subscribers as of 3 February went to 7.6 million and 30.7 million, respectively, according to figures released with the company's latest financial results.

(Telecompaper) Italy's antitrust and competition authority AGCM has fined the operators Telecom Italia (TIM), Wind Tre, Vodafone Italia and Fastweb a total of EUR 228 million following a probe into possible collusion over their controversial 28-day billing practices. The operators were accused of infringing competition rules by collectively agreeing to raise their prices after introducing 28-day billing in 2017, effectively resulting in a 13th monthly bill every year.
BT reports lower Q3 revenue, estimates network vendor cap costs at GBP 500 mln

(Telecompaper) BT has announced reported revenue of GBP 17.25 billion and adjusted revenue of GBP 17.19 billion for the nine months to 31 December 2019, both down 2 percent on the effects of regulation, competition and legacy product declines. The company also warned that the recent government decision on the use of certain network vendors would cost the company around GBP 500 million over five years.

Facebook facing EUR 5 mln Italy fine for 'non-compliance'

(Telecompaper) Italian antitrust watchdog AGCM has launched proceedings against Facebook for its failure to comply with an earlier order regarding improper commercial practices in the social networking giant's methods of collecting and using personal data. In a statement, the agency said Facebook had not heeded its request to properly inform users about the collection and use, for commercial reasons, of the data they release and could be fined up to EUR 5 million for "non-compliance", as recently confirmed by the Regional Administrative Court of Lazio.
