(Telecompaper) Axiata Group reported revenue of MYR 11.8 billion for the first half of 2020, which represents a decline of 2.3 percent year-to-date, mainly due to the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic containment measures implemented across the group. Axiata Group estimated a COVID-19 revenue impact of MYR 400 million in the first half of 2020, mainly from distribution shutdowns and outlet closures during stringent movement controls, preventing subscribers from accessing prepaid reloads as well as the provision of free data and bonus recharge to customers.

US pay-TV sector sheds 1.57 mln net subscribers in Q2 but losses slow vs Q1

(Telecompaper) The largest pay-TV providers in the US lost around 1.57 million net subscribers in the second quarter of 2020, narrowing from an estimated 2.06 million losses in the first quarter but more than the 1.33 million lost in the year-earlier period, according to Leichtman Research Group. Even providers over the internet (MVPDs) lost around 25,000 net subscribers after net additions of 80,000 a year earlier, the research found.
Nokia phone maker HMD Global raises USD 280 mln to expand business

(Telecompaper) T-Mobile US said revenues got a boost in the second quarter from its merger with Sprint, while the net profit got hit by the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and one-off costs related to the merger. The number of customers added came well within the company's wide guidance, with total customers reaching 98.3 million at the end of the quarter, pushing the company to second place on the US market after Verizon, overtaking AT&T. This is T-Mobile US' first quarter since closing its merger with Sprint.
