Intel sells home gateway business to Maxlinear for USD 150 mln cash

(Telecompaper) MaxLinear has agreed to buy Intel's connected home unit for USD 150 million in cash. The Home Gateway Platform division includes chips for Wi-Fi access points and Ethernet and home gateway products. MaxLinear said the acquisition will complement its existing portfolio, bringing together a complete and scalable platform of connectivity and access service products for existing customers, and creating potential new revenue opportunities in adjacent target end-markets.
Zoom promises full security review as users pass 200 mln per day

(Telecompaper) Zoom Video Communications announced it has seen a 20-fold increase in daily users on its messaging and conferencing platform. In March, the company passed 200 million daily meeting participants, both free and paid, compared to 10 million in December last year. The increased usage has raised concerns about security and privacy on Zoom, and CEO Eric Yuan issued an apology to customers, saying the company would focus more on addressing the concerns.
SK Telecom tops 2 mln 5G subscribers, nearly 45% 5G market share in first year

(Telecompaper) South Korean operator SK Telecom has reached 2.22 million 5G subscribers and 44.7 percent 5G market share, according to a report from the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT released in January. SK Telecom commercially launched its 5G service on 3 April 2019. SK Telecom also reports it has created around 70 5G Clusters in key commercial districts and densely populated areas throughout the nation. To date, around 1 million customers visited SK Telecom's 5G Clusters to test 5G services such as 'Jump AR Zoo' and '5G LoL Park.'
Sinch to buy Brazil's Wavy from Movile, sees up to BRL 20 mln synergies in 2 years

(Telecompaper) Swedish mobile messaging service provider Sinch said it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Brazilian messaging company Wavy for BRL 355 million in cash and 1.53 million new shares issued to owner Movile, and expects to complete the deal in the second half of 2020. Merger synergies are expected to reach BRL 15-20 million over the coming 24 months. Sinch has increased its credit facility by SEK 600 million for future acquisition opportunities, too.
NENT to cut non-sports costs by another SEK 700 mln, scraps dividend and incentive plan, suspends Studios ops sale

(Telecompaper) Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) has announced measures to cut non-sports costs by SEK 700 million, hitting its 2020 results, because of Covid-19. It has scrapped its proposal for a SEK 7.0 per share dividend for 2019 and its long-term executive incentive plan, both of which were due to go to vote at the AGM on 19 May. It will suspend the sale of the non-scripted production, branded entertainment and events business operations of NENT Studios.
