A vacancy for a Senior Spacecraft Mechanisms Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space Limited in Stevenage. You will be responsible for detailed design, development and verification activities under limited supervision of high reliability, complex space mechanisms for both telecoms spacecraft and science missions You will work closely with senior team members to continue development of knowledge of space mechanism design and verification Some delegation and supervision of junior engineers Mentoring and knowledge transfer to less experienced and junior members of the team. The successful candidate will be subject to security clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Understanding and working to a detailed technical specification. Under limited supervision, perform mechanisms related design, analyses and tradeoffs. Preparation of reports for management, project and department. Carry out tradeoffs and preliminary concept designs for early phase science studies. Develop and maintain excellent customer working relationships. Assist in preparation of technical elements for bids and proposals. Support other Airbus Defence and Space departments on studies e.g. ENS and ESA Phase A studies. Support existing projects within Airbus Defence and Space in a Mechanisms Expert role, when required. Authoring of clear and concise technical reports and processes, demonstrating a clear understanding of mechanism design, manufacture and test. Contribute to work packages to ensure tasksactivities are completed on time, on cost and on quality. Support the project responsible engineer RE during development, qualification and acceptance verification and validation. Work closely with the project manager to ensure schedule and budgets are closely adhered to. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Engineering Degree in Mechanical Engineering with experience in the SpaceAerospace or AutomotiveF1 industry would be appreciated. Proven experience working with Complex, high reliability Mechanisms. A sound working knowledge of Motors, Gearboxes, Tribology and understanding the selection of Materials for harsh environments. Ability to do hand calculations for stress and thermal. Basic electrical knowledge, particularly working with Ohms Law. Experience of environmental and functional testing. Hands on design experience of 3D CAD tools and other engineering tools. Excellent presentation and communication skills. Fluency in English. One of our clients in the UK is looking for a Mechanisms Responsible Engineer. The Mechanisms Team seeks a dynamic, organised and proactive Engineer with sound mechanical technical knowledge, a strong focus on module hardware delivery, robust work package management alongside strong product design skills. Key Tasks Management of existing established mechanism products and accountability for recurring manufacture and test budget, schedule and quality technical and hardware. Focus on product delivery and coordination between internal and external suppliersworkshops to achieve spacecraft module delivery schedules. Design of new or evolution of existing mechanism products whilst being mindful of system tradeoffs. Handson engineering including build, test and spacecraft integration responsibilities. Managing several work packages in parallel with changeable priorities. Interface with internal and external customers including presentationsmeetings or authoring technical documents e.g. design reports, procedures, test reports Debugging mechanism hardware issues including electrical and component anomalies. Qualifications MEng or BEng or equivalent ideally in engineering. Experience Proven successful ownership and management of technical projects delivered within budget and schedule constraints. Proven track record for leading a significant product development from design through to physical realisation. Proven knowledge within spacecraft engineering domain would be beneficial. Proven mechanical design experience including stresscritical components, precision tolerance analysis, drafting, materials awareness and fabricationmanufacture methods appreciation. Preferable experience with debugging hardwarecomponent issues Electrical hardware design and software experience would be an advantage for the role. Knowledge Skills Selfmotivated, creative, high attention to detail and accountable. Ability to work autonomously or within project teams and a real company player. Strong communication within company and outside to customers and suppliers. Ability to work under pressure in an organised and responsive manner. Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities. Knowledge of mechanism products, mechanism components e.g. bearings, actuators, transmissions, feedback devices and their role within the system. Knowledge and ideally practical experience of spacecraft systems and mechanisms such as, wheels, APMs, separation systems for example. Good MS Office Skills. Mechanical software knowledge preferable, including SolidWorks Ansys.

You will join the Thermal Product Eurostar CI Mechanism department and will be in charge of the specification, design and predevelopment of electromechanisms.
