Metro bus fares increased

The fee hike for base fare will go up 25 cents, from $1.50 to $1.75, according to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. This is Metro's first rate increase in four years, and comes in the midst of the biggest surge in rail construction in the city's history, the Los Angeles Times points out, noting that by the end of the year, five new lines will be under construction, spanning downtown Los Angeles, mid-Wilshire, Azusa, South L.A. and Santa Monica.

Beef Export Value Increased But Volume Declines

U.S. beef exports were 15% lower on a voulme basis in July compared to the previous year, though export value remained steady at $621.7 million. For January-July, export value per head was $272.70, up $31.25. January-July beef exports equated to 14% of total production and 11% for muscle cuts, according to USMEF. Export value per head of fed slaughter was $298.56 in July, which was down slightly from the June record but still $25 higher year-over-year. read more
