Swiss parliament rejects new wholesale access regulation for Swisscom

(Telecompaper) The Swiss parliament has rejected a proposal to subject Swisscom to additional wholesale regulation opening up its network to competitors. Despite support from the government minister and regulator, the MPs voted against the measure to expand regulation beyond the copper network to include virtual unbundling and fibre, ATS reported.

Swisscom lifts Q2 revenues by 2.1 percent with 1.5 percent fewer RGUs

(Telecompaper) Swisscom's operating results were within expectations in the first half of 2018. In Q2, net revenue increased by 2.1 percent to CHF 2.92 billion. EBITDA dropped by 8.6 percent to CHF 1.09 billion in the second quarter, while in the Swiss core business, EBITDA dropped by only 3.2 percent to CHF 894 million but at Fastweb, it fell by 30.1 percent to CHF 195 million.

Swisscom plans 5G network launch by year-end

(Telecompaper) Swisscom plans to launch a 5G network at the end of 2018, two years earlier than originally expected. Ericsson, Swisscom's network equipment supplier, will deliver the first 5G hardware and software and implement it on the Swisscom mobile network this year. The company will shortly be trialing Switzerland's first 5G mast in Ittigen, but the development of an extensive and fully efficient 5G network is dependent on a moderate amendment of regulatory parameters.
