Early Sunday morning, SpaceX mission CRS-4 lifted off from Cape Canaveral towards the International Space Station, carrying with it the first 3D printer that will operate in zero gravity. When the astronauts aboard the ISS use the 3D printer, they will become the first humans to ever manufacture goods away from planet Earth. It's not quite the Moon- or Mars-based factory that we've always dreamed of, but it's a very important first step towards manufacturing goods outside of Earth's gravity, and thus the eventual colonization and industrialization of the Solar System.

Central Ohio's only comprehensive outpatient treatment center for eating disorders will triple its space with a move this weekend, enabling it to eliminate a waiting list. The Center for Balanced Living, which last expanded in 2009 in separate buildings on the former Harding Hospital campus in Worthington, bought and renovated an office building to the north at 8001 Ravines Edge Court in Columbus.

On September 20, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) will launch a small, spherical satellite called SpinSat. "It's a multifold mission," says Andy Nicholas, the Primary Investigator, "but the primary mission is demonstration of a new thruster technology."

MDA gets $19.8M European Space Agency contract

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. says its U.K. subsidiary has received a contract from the European Space Agency valued at some $14 million euros or about C$19.8 million. The British Columbia-based space communications and information company says the contract is for the development and construction of a Ka band data relay terminal flight model for use on the ESA Columbus module of the International Space Station.
