We are currently looking for a MicrowaveSubmillimetre Remote Sensing Specialist for our customer in Germany. MicrowaveSubmillimetre Remote Sensing Specialist Key Tasks and Responsibilities Our customer is a European organisation providing weather and climaterelated satellite data, images and products for its users. In this role you will have the following responsibilities Development of algorithms for calibration and navigation of MWI and ICI level 0 data to generate level 1a and 1b datasets Development of prototype software code for the purposes of testing and verification of the algorithms developed Development of a performance model based on specifications to be provided by industry Generation of test data required for the verification of the algorithm and products Contributing to documentation including Algorith Theoretical Basis Documents, test data descriptions, Product Generation and Product Content Specifications, technical reports Interfacing with internal experts as well as with expert groups and the wider scientific community Providing support to the development of CalibrationValidation activities. Skills Experience You will have the following qualifications and relevant experience University degree in meteorology, atmospheric physics, remote sensing, instrument engineering or equivalent Experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the microwave spectrum Experience in radiative transfer Indepth understanding of instrument calibration and characterisation Familiarity with Earth observation systems remote sensing and in situ systems, Handling and processing of remote sensing data Good writing skills in preparing scientifictechnical documents Very good skills in a higher programming language e.g. Fortran, C Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Fluency in English is mandatory, knowledge of another European language is an advantage. This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for a Scientist with at least 3 years experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the microwave spectrum. You should have a university degree in meteorology, atmospheric physics, remote sensing, instrument engineering or equivalent. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. This role involves Microwave Imager MWI and Ice Cloud Imager ICI instruments and the primary task of the Scientist is the development of algorithms for calibration and navigation of MWI and ICI level 0 data to generate level 1a and 1b datasets. The key experience and attributes sought are Experience in atmospheric remote sensing in the microwave spectrum Experience in radiative transfer Indepth understanding of instrument calibration and characterisation Familiarisation with Earth observation systems Handling and processing of remote sensing data Good writing skills in preparing scientific technical documents Very good skills in higher programming language e.g. Fortran, C The working language is English. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of 2 years starting in August 2013 with two options to extend for a further period of one year each. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The main working language is English. The role will embrace Preparation of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 and selected level 2 products Preparation of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities Prototyping of product generation functions Generation of product contents specifications Preparation of test data Preparation of initial validation plans Contribution to the generation of performance budgets Conduct of internal studies related to mission requirements refinements Assessment of results from external studies Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies The key experience and attributes sought are University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or equivalent At least three years of experience in the field of remote sensing, including experience with radio occultation observations Experience in satellite data processing Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as Fortran, CC, Python Skills in writing scientifictechnical documents Familiarity with Microsoft Office Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Understanding and writing requirements Specification, development, and validation of satellite data processing chains Calibration and product validation methods Radio occultation data processing and applications Fluency in English is essential. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of two years starting in June 2013 with two options to extend for further periods of one year each.
