The Cincinnati-based retailer , which is the parent company of Fry's Food and Drug Stores in Arizona, is recalling its ground cinnamon, garlic powder, coarse ground black pepper and Bac'n Buds after a sample of its garlic powder from a store in South Carolina tested by the FDA was found to be contaminated with salmonella. While no illnesses have been reported in connection with the products, Kroger is recalling the seasonings produced on the same equipment in the same facility.
Sanofi's big new cholesterol drug wins European green light

A new type of cholesterol drug from Sanofi and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals won a green light from European regulators on Friday, two months behind a rival product from Amgen. The European Medicines Agency said its experts had recommended Praluent for patients unable to control their cholesterol despite taking optimal doses of conventional statin pills or those who cannot take statins.

An experimental drug for one of the most difficult-to-treat types of hepatitis C has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, adding to the surge of new options for patients with the liver-destroying virus. Daklinza , developed by New York-based Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., is the first drug approved to treat genotype 3 hepatitis C. It's to be used with Sovaldi, one of two blockbuster hepatitis C drugs sold by Gilead Sciences, along with Harvoni.

Biogen shares fell more than 19% on Friday after quarterly earnings results that beat on profits but missed on revenues. Also, the biotech giant lowered its forecast for full-year earnings and sales because it doesn't expect Tecfidera, its key multiple sclerosis drug, to grow as expected.
