Grace to End Silica Sol FCC Catalyst Production After Three Decades

(NYSE: GRA) announced today that, during the third quarter of this year, it will close its 35,000 metric ton per year silica sol based fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst manufacturing operation in Lake Charles, LA. Grace introduced silica sol catalysts in the late 1970s. Since then, its industry-leading research, technical service, and flexible manufacturing systems have introduced a number of new and improved catalyst technology platforms customized to support the varying needs of its refining industry customers around the globe. We believe the silica sol catalyst technology has reached the end of its life cycle, said Shawn Abrams, President, Grace Catalysts Technologies. Other technologies in our portfolio are meeting the demands of modern day refiners far more effectively. The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) specifies in Part 15 of the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) the testing and certification procedures for millimeter-wave (mm-wave) applications. Engineers designing transmitters for the mm-wave unlicensed bands (e.g., 802.11ad, WiGig) must adhere to the intentional, unintentional, or incidental radiator requirements. In particular, FCC 15.33 states radiated measurements are necessary of the highest fundamental up to the fifth harmonic or to 200 GHz.

FCC releases report on competition in the U.S. video programming delivery market

The FCC has adopted its 15th Report to Congress on the status of competition in the market for the delivery of video programming. The Commission found that the number of MVPD subscribers grew from 100.8 million to 101.0 million households between year-end 2010 and June 2012.

FCC approves Softbank's $21.6B acquisition of Sprint

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission has approved the $21.6 billion acquisition of Sprint by Japanese telecommunications group Softbank, saying it promises to bring consumers faster and more advanced wireless broadband Internet service. The go-ahead from the FCC was the final hurdle to Softbank consummating the deal. Sprint shareholders in late June approved the acquisition that will see Softbank pay $7.64 per share, for a total of $16.64 billion in cash, and invest about $5 billion of new capital into Sprint. It will own 78 percent of the new company.
