NEWS ANALYSIS: Verizon's plans to use unlicensed spectrum for LTE gets vested interests riled up as they think of ways to convince the FCC they should be the regulators of LTE products. At the end of October, a group of cable companies and big tech companies including Microsoft and Google had a meeting with Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler in which they complained about non-WiFi use of unlicensed spectrum.

FCC Revises Telecom Pole Attachment Rate Formula

In last week's Order on Reconsideration , the FCC definitively closed the "telecom formula loophole" thereby ensuring that pole attachment rates for telecommunications attachers approximate the rates for cable attachers, as intended by the Commission's 2011 Order amending its pole attachment rules. In the Reconsideration Order, the FCC further revised the telecom formula to equalize it with the cable formula in most cases in response to a petition for reconsideration filed jointly by NCTA, Comptel and tw telecom .

FCC Settles Data Breach Investigation with Cox Communications

Recently, the Enforcement Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission entered into a settlement with Cox Communications resolving an investigation into whether the cable operator failed to properly protect its customers' personally identifiable information when its electronic data systems were breached in 2014. Cox is the third-largest cable television provider and the seventh-largest telephone carrier in the United States with over six million subscribers.
