AT&T WiFi Calling On iPhones Now Allowed With FCC Waiver

The FCC grants AT&T a waiver of its rules for the hearing impaired, allowing the carrier to roll out its WiFi calling on the iPhone and other devices. The Federal Communications Commission has granted AT&T a limited waiver stating that the carrier does not have to support teletype technology for calls that are made over WiFi.

ACA, ISPs file brief to overturn FCC Open Internet Order

(Telecompaper) The American Cable Association has joined with ISP petitioners and other trade associations in filing a reply brief calling on the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit to overturn the FCC's decision to reclassify broadband internet access as a highly regulated telecom service. In the brief, the ACA argues that the FCC acted contrary to law and decades of precedent by relying on Title II of the Communications Act as the legal basis for its new regulations. The joint reply brief was filed with associations including the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, USTelecom, CTIA The Wireless Association, the Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (WISPA) and individual ISPs such as AT&T and CenturyLink.

FCC says blocking FCC-approved Wi-Fi hotspots is "patently...

On August 18, 2015, the FCC announced a $750,000 civil penalty and formal Consent Decree with Smart City Holdings for blocking consumers' personal Wi-Fi access at various convention centers, meeting centers and hotels around the United States. Smart City is an internet and telecommunications provider for such facilities, and had been blocking personal mobile "hotspots" being used by convention and meeting attendees.

AT&T Says Sprint, T-Mobile Breaking FCC WiFi Calling Rules

AT&T recently filed a complaint with the FCC over WiFi calling services on the iPhone, which it says it cannot offer due to certain regulations. AT&T competitors Sprint and T-Mobile have offered WiFi calling for the better part of a year, and AT&T insists they are doing so against FCC regulations.
