CSX Full-Year Outlook Lowered on Weaker Volume Growth

Analysts have questioned whether boom times for railroads might be over, as stock prices have dipped and volumes are lower than expected CSX Corp. executives told analysts Wednesday that the railroad's outlook for the full-year has been curtailed by an unexpectedly weak first quarter in which volume rose only 1%, revenue was flat and industrywide growth was suppressed by coal, the stronger dollar and winter weather.

CMC Markets analyst Michael McCarthy said there was no real investor conviction driving markets and mining and energy stocks had given up most of Wednesday's gains. "We're between a rock and a high place," Mr McCarthy said, adding that the ASX200 was still unable to push towards the key level of 6000 points.
