CSX Fourth-Quarter Net Income Falls; Weaker 2016 Results Expected

CSX Corp. reported fourth-quarter net income fell 5% to $466 million, or 48 cents per share, and announced that this year's earnings are expected to trail 2015. CSX, whose results were the first fourth-quarter earnings announcement in the transport industry, tied them to weak industrial and commodity markets, such as a 32% decline in coal shipments.

United Airlines sales hurt by Paris attacks, weaker oil industry demand

United Airlines said on Monday that its passenger unit revenue may have fallen more than expected in the just ended fourth quarter, after the November attacks in Paris shook traveler demand and sharply lower oil prices hurt sales to the Houston hub carrier's energy clients. UPDATE 1-Dialog cuts sales guidance on weaker demand for mobile chips

FRANKFURT, Dec 15 German chipmaker Dialog Semiconductor Plc slashed its revenue guidance on Tuesday, citing weaker-than-expected demand for chips used in mobile phones such as Apple Inc's big-screen iPhone. The statement sent shares in Dialog, which is trying to buy U.S. rival Atmel Corp for about $4.6 billion, 10 percent lower in pre-market trade, according to prices quoted by brokerage Lang & Schwarz.

At midday: TSX falls amid weaker financials

Canada's main stock index retreated on Thursday as some of its biggest bank shares fell despite reporting profit growth, while railway and pipeline stocks also weakened, offsetting overall gains for resource stocks.Toronto-Dominion Bank fell 0.9 per cent to $54.57 and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce dropped 1.2 per cent to $99.58 after reporting fourth quarter results. The overall financials group retreated 0.5 per cent as analysts were concerned about industry growth prospects in the face of slumping oil prices.
