Majestic Wine abandons six-bottle rule to fight back against supermarkets

Specialist wine retailer Majestic Wine has abandoned its long-held strategy of only selling wine by the caseload and start selling wine by the bottle from Tuesday as it seeks to compete with the supermarket chains. Customers have, until now, been limited to buying a minimum of six bottles, a policy that had been in place since the company started trading 1980, when Majestic had to sell wine by the case to comply with the licensing laws.

(Telecompaper) Digicel Group, provider of communications services in 31 markets in the Caribbean and South Pacific, has decided not to proceed with its planned IPO at this time. Despite significant support from a number of investors during the marketing period, Digicel has decided that current conditions, especially in emerging markets, make an IPO a less attractive option for the company. Chairman Denis O'Brien said that an IPO was and predicated on achieving fair value for the company. He said the company's growth plans remain unchanged and that it remained in a strong position to exploit areas of interest in data, business services, cable TV and broadband.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. has abandoned a six-year effort to build a casino-resort in South Florida and has now focused attention on a potential gaming development in Georgia. Andy Abboud, the casino operator's senior vice president of government relations, confirmed publish reports from the Sunshine State that Las Vegas Sands had shut down its lobbying contracts in Florida.

Blue and Green: Shell announced today that it was abandoning further work on the controversial Burger J exploration well, located in Alaskas Chukchi Sea. The Burger J well is approximately 150 miles from Barrow, Alaska, in about 150 feet of water. Shell drilled the well to a total depth of 6,800 feet this summer. They found indications of oil and gas in the Burger J well, but these are "not sufficient to warrant further exploration in the Burger prospect".
