Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd.'s lawyers asked a Quebec judge not to approve a proposed $430-million settlement fund for victims of the Lac-Megantic train derailment because they say its terms are unfair to the company. Lawyer Alain Riendeau told Quebec Superior Court Justice Gaetan Dumas on Wednesday the terms severely limit CP's ability to defend itself in court.

A dispute over the value of an aircraft tangled up in the Evergreen Vintage Aircraft bankruptcy case has been settled, paving the way for a smooth, if not entirely satisfactory, final bankruptcy settlement process for the major parties involved. World Fuel Services, a company that provided fuel to EVA parent company Evergreen International Airlines, was granted security interest in two EVA-owned aircraft in 2012.

DeWine launches online claims process for rock salt settlement funds

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine on Friday announced a new online claims process to allow local governments throughout the state to request a share of an $11.5 million settlement with Morton Salt Inc. and Cargill Inc. over past rock salt sales to public purchasers. Ohio public entities that bought rock salt from Cargill or Morton between July 2008 and June 2011 may be eligible to receive a share of the settlement.

A Democratic state senator is petitioning state Superior Court to intervene in the Christie administration's proposed settlement with ExxonMobil. State Sen. Raymond Lesniak filed the motion Friday with the aim of blocking a $225 million settlement between the state Department of Environmental Protection and the petroleum company over pollution claims.
