A vacancy has arisen for a GIS Solutions Architect Senior Designer with Airbus Defence and Space. This role is to be home based in Farnborough Guildford, UK this role will required at least a 24 month commitment to work in Abu Dhabi. This role is required for the provision of consultancy support and implementation of GI Solutions Framework for the client. The Senior GIS Solutions Architect will be proficient in GIS, in order to support GeoConsultancy services and other areas of the company business. This role is a multidisciplinary one in Business Development Products and Services definition and Technical Design Coordination. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Using protocols, processes and standards found within Spatial Data Infrastructure SDI and Service Orientated Architecture SOA you will develop approaches to provide a basis for exploiting the groups capabilities in the delivery of geospatial solutions Use SDI principles to define the way the various components of a geospatial solution fit together in order to meet a business need Apply recognised best practice within the geospatial industry Advise Airbus DS on geospatial policy and development as and when requested Act as a facilitator to resolve the differences between the various stakeholders, suppliers, engineers, and other interested parties involved in the project in order to reach a spatial solution which everyone accepts and which is valid and architecturally sound To attend meetings and provide advice instruction at the clients request as appropriate Focus on the architecturally significant aspects of a design and identify areas of high risk Work closely with the client in order to identify their requirements and suggest appropriate solutions and architectural approach In partnership with the technical specialists within the Airbus DS Group seek to develop new and innovative solutions to current and future business and client needs Develop appropriate technical architectures for the dissemination and delivery to users of services so that the full value of the information can be exploited Deliver technical content to proposals, bids and quotes Generate own ideas and initiatives that capitalise on existing and prospective strengths both within Airbus entities and external partners to drive substantive, additional benefit to clients. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience A Masters degree in relevant subject or equivalent experiencetraining GIS, Software Engineering, Computer Science Good level of technical knowledge and experience in the use of geospatial data and applications, including database and web technology Proven experience using GIS products in a commercial environment Proven experience with Geospatial standards OGC, WMS, WFS, etc. Web technologies Development Tools Open Source or COTS Database technology Oracle, Postgres, etc.. Good track record of customer liaison Overseas experience in particular Middle East A proven ability to communicate effectively to staff and management including the ability to deliver technical presentations to internal and external audiences Selfmotivating and be able to work as part of a team as well as working in an independent discipline. You will join the EO Detection Microwave Engineering department. The Instruments division of the Earth Observation, Navigation Sciences directorate is responsible for developing instruments lidars ALADIN ESA and ATLID ESA, optical and hyperfrequency instruments for Earth observation and scientific payloads EUCLID PLM. Several important instrument developments are in progress or about to kick off IASI NG, Sentinel 5, MetImage and MWI for the MetOp Second Generation mission, GOCI II KARI for Korea and NAOMI for Peru. To develop its optical instrument development activities, the division is looking for a Detection Architect Engineer to be responsible for technical engineering for optical instrument detection chains. In this context, you will report hierarchically to the detection department of the Instruments division and will be posted to an instrument project group. You will be part of the technical team for the optical instrument development project and as such, your responsibilities will include Architecture, technical and functional definition of the detection chain or detection subassembly which includes the focal plane containing the detectors, the electronics for implementation of the detectors, the electronics for detector signal processing, in addition to all electronics for support equipment contributing to the performance of detection chains Suitability of the detection chain definition within the instrument and of the specifications for the equipment comprising it. You will need to ensure that the interfaces are compatible with the optical, electrical, mechanical and thermal functional chains Radiometric performance assessments that you will consolidate together with the instrument technical manager Technical and technological choices for the detectors and the electronics for detector signal processing, key equipment of the detection chain Engineering and validation plan for the detection chain. As detection architect, you must be involved in all lifecycle phases of the instrument and join the project teams during Proposal phases Design phasesphase 0 and phase A Development phasesB CD up to delivery of instruments. As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and competencies Qualified engineer 5year degree or equivalent, ideally with basic training in electronics or microelectronics 10 years experience in the field of detection, complex measurement subassemblies in optoelectronics andor detection system electronics, ideally in the space sector It is essential to have acquired experience in equipment or systems including CCD, CMOS and other detectors in the Visible and Infrared ranges Technical skills required some or all subsystem architecture, detectors, signal processing, analogue and digital electronics, optical, mechanical and thermal engineering Good team player Ability to lead multidisciplinary activities Good sense of responsibility with regard to commitments made and compliance with deadlines Excellent grasp of physics Skills at analysing and synthesising, as well as in complex systems Meticulousness and technical curiosity Creativity, interest in innovation Excellent oral and written communication skills Advanced level of English, proficiency in French would be an asset. The successful applicant will join the Flight Dynamics and AOCSGNC Department. The AOCS Architect is responsible for ensuring AOCS development activities are performed on quality, on time and on cost. You will ensure that AOCS activities are properly coordinated across the whole project, that agreed schedule is maintained, and that all activities are successfully completed within the defined budgets. You will be expected to guide, review and approve AOCSGNC design and analysis activities through the full engineering lifecycle from initial concept design through to support to validation, producing the associated documentation design justifications, SW requirements for AOCSGNC algorithms, performance analysis documentation etc.. The AOCS architect also proactively manages the subcontract. The job is a challenging and exciting mix of systems engineering including HW sensors and actuators knowhow, control engineering, project management and subcontract management. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Responsibility for managing the subcontractor in what relates to the Spacecraft AOCS System Design, Development, Implementation, Performance and Validation. SupportingShadow the procurement of the AOCS sensors actuators, checking approving performance analyses, and supporting the Software and System Validation Verification with Hardware in the loop. Analyse the Functional Verification test results and assess if the AOCS verification is achieved. Support the Software Architect during the Software reviews on items related to AOCS. Interface with customer, systems engineering team, project management and subcontractors. Control AOCS budget and schedule, define risks and risk mitigation strategies. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.
