Netflix Admits to Lessening Video Quality on Verizon, AT&T Phones

Netflix Inc. said it had been lowering the quality of its video for customers watching its service on wireless networks such as AT&T and Verizon Communications for more than five years, The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. The company also said that it does not downgrade videos for T-Mobile US Inc. and Sprint Corp. users because they had "more consumer friendly policies," the Journal added.

Netflix admits to throttling, to protect customer data caps

(Telecompaper) Netflix said it has been throttling video speeds on most carriers aroundthe world, including AT&T and Verizon, for the past five years in order to protect its customers, the Wall Street Journal reported. A week after the wireless carriers were accused of throttling video speeds on their networks, Netflix stepped forward to take the blame for the lower video quality, saying it did to protect consumers from their exceeding mobile data caps.
