Kraft Foods profit falls as sales dip

The Northfiled, Ill., company, which was spun off in 2012 from Mondel z International Inc., is now merging with H.J. Heinz Co. The merger is expected to close in the second half of 2015 and would create the third-largest food and beverage company in North America, with about $28 billion in revenue, and is expected to result in about $1.5 billion in annual savings by the end of 2017.

Food and beverage companies continue to show their philanthropic sides through donations to disaster relief and humanitarian efforts to support victims of the Nepal-area earthquake on Saturday, April 25. The 7.8-magnitude earthquake killed more than 3,300 people, and the death toll still is expected to rise, USA Today reports. At least 18 were killed and dozens more were injured on Mount Everest, where the quake launched an avalanche, it says.

Tyson Foods plans to cut human antibiotics in chicken

Tyson Foods Inc., the largest poultry producer in the United States, says they plan to eliminate the use of human antibiotics in its chicken flocks by September of 2017. McDonald's Corp., which gets much of their chicken meat from Tyson Foods Inc., say they plan to have all of their U.S. stores gradually stop buying chicken raised with human antibiotics over the next two years.
