The tablets come with a docking station and Amazon's Alexa digital assistant to turn them into a smart display and speaker in the home. (Telecompaper) Lenovo reported a strong improvement in results for its fiscal second quarter, supported by a return to breakeven at Motorola and continued growth in the PC business. Group revenue reached USD 13.4 billion, up 14 percent year-over-year, and operating profit more than tripled, to USD 290 million from USD 88 million a year ago. The net profit increased 21 percent to USD 168 million, and Lenovo proposed a stable interim dividend of HKD 0.06 per share.

(Telecompaper) Lenovo reported a return to profit in its fiscal first quarter to June, driven by revenue growth and cost savings from the merger of its PC and mobile phone activities. Revenues rose 19 percent year-on-year to 11.91 billion, the gross margin increased to 13.7 percent from 13.6, and the net result improved to a profit of USD 85 million from a loss of USD 54 million a year ago.

Lenovo's Smart Display with Google Assistant has hit the market. There are two versions of the device, 8-inch and 10-inch, both with full HD screens, and priced at $200 and $250 respectively. "The cost is significantly below an iPad mini and it offers far more functionality than just a digital picture frame or a Bluetooth speaker," said Alan Lepofsky, principal analyst at Constellation Research.
