Job Description Astroscale is seeking to employ an experienced and motivated Propulsion Engineer at our facility based in Harwell, UK. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing company seeking to make a positive contribution to the growing problem of orbital debris that endangers mankinds continued use of space as an asset. This role will allow the right candidate to shape solutions for our missions. Whilst the candidate will primarily work in the UK, they will interact extensively with a larger team in Astroscales Japan Office and may expect to be required to travel to Tokyo as needed in support of Astroscale projects and operations. Responsibilities Lead development and design activities for the Propulsion Subsystems on Astroscale spacecraft derive and maintain subsystem requirements define and develop subsystem architecture analysis, design and sizing of both chemical propulsion CP and electric propulsion EP systems Performing rapid feasibility studies into different propulsion scenarios and architectures, including development of any models and tools necessary for analysis. Coordinate with other teams at subsystem and at system level to define ConOps, ICDs, development and verification plans. Selection of relevant components for CP and EP, understanding the intricacies of buymake decisions. Interact with partners and suppliers for the provision of propulsion equipment. Support procurement engineers with specification, tradeoff and selection of propulsion equipment. Supporting test engineers with testing of models functional e.g. thrust analysis, environmental e.g. vibe, thermal, TVAC, requirements verification, analysis of test data and correlation with propulsion technical models. Essential Skills experience Diploma Bachelor or Master degree in propulsion, mechanical or aerospace engineering. 5 years of commercial experience in propulsion systems analysis, design procurement and test for satellites. An in depth understanding of the tradeoffs in application of Chemical Propulsion and Electrical Propulsion systems. A good knowledge of propulsion suppliers and products and the stateoftheart in propulsion systems and propulsion RD. Good understanding of spacecraft mission lifecycle and milestones e.g. MDR, PDR, CDR, etc. Good understanding of system engineering managing requirements through the full project lifecycle. Desired Skills Experience Demonstrable experience of spacecraft design lifecycle at all stages from initial concept to design, test, and operations. A basic knowledge in the following areas debris removal, endoflife, inorbit servicing. Whilst the working language across all Astroscale divisions is English, proficiency in spoken andor written Japanese would be considered an asset. Votre mission au CNES Le poste demande principalement danimer la recherche fondamentale en propulsion lectrique via les laboratoires et applique via les industriels. Les activits dont vous serez charg comportent des activits de RT varies avec des laboratoires CNRS ou ONERA, de grands groupes industriels, PME et startups ainsi que le suivi de thses et postdoc. Les thmes porteurs concernent les moteurs en euxmmes doubletage, dualfiring, lectrospray, ergols alternatifs, etc. ainsi que les moyens sol diagnostics, reprsentativit bordsol, etc.. Votre activit consistera en outre harmoniser dans la mesure du possible ces actions de RT avec les besoins des industriels et des startups et leurs recherches propres, ainsi quavec les activits que ces entits ralisent avec un support europen Esa ou programme H2020. Une roadmap inscrit lensemble de ces actions dans une logique moyenterme. Nanmoins, vous pouvez proposer de nouveaux axes de recherche. En outre, un de vos axes de travail sur le longterme sera dimpulser une rflexion sur le thme de la standardisation des techniques dessai au niveau europen, en collaboration avec nos partenaires laboratoires, industriels et Esa. Vous aurez en tant que de besoin un rle de conseil technique auprs de lindustrie. Vous participez aux phases davantprojet CNES concernant la propulsion lectrique phases 0 et A. Profil de candidat recherch Vous tes titulaire a minima dun grade de master diplme dingnieur grande cole ou master universitaire et avez des connaissances en propulsion lectrique moteur etou systme propulsif et idalement en physique des plasmas avec ventuellement une premire exprience de lordre de 2 ans dans le domaine spatial sur des projets industriels ou scientifiques. Vous tes ventuellement docteur. Vous matrisez parfaitement langlais. Vous avez le sens de lorganisation et de bonnes capacits danalyse et de synthse, tes laise lorsquil sagit de travailler sur plusieurs sujets la fois. Vous tes en outre rigoureux, pragmatique et cratif. Enfin, vous aimez travailler en quipe et avez de trs bonnes capacits de communication.
