Position Reference 942 On behalf of ESA, we are currently looking for a Telecommunication System Engineer to work in its Site ESTEC in the city of Noordwijk, The Netherlands. In support and reporting to the 4S Programme Manager the key person will coordinate the activities required for settingup future Institutional and European telecommunications Programmes Initiatives Activities in the area of secure satcom for safety and security, research programs H2020, Horizon Europe and partnership programmes. The activities notably include the support of preparatory activities, actions and implementation in cooperation and cooperation with the relevant stakeholders Industry, National Agencies, EU Institutions. Please note that this position is a fixedterm contract. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Supporting the Project preparation and implementation and managing industrial activities. Supporting the definition of technology activities or additional technical studies in preparation of the next Phase of the Programme in the appropriate areas of competence. Assessment of new concepts and techniques to be applied to next generation telecommunication systems for both space and ground segment. Regular reporting of progress to the ESA System Engineers and the 4S Programme Manager. In the execution of the tasks, the Telecommunication Systems Engineer will liaise closely and proactively with the rest of the Programme team as well as with other colleagues within the Telecommunications Technologies, Products and Services Department. In particular as support to the 4S programme Manager the tasks will include Support Implementation Projects for preliminary System definition and validation. This can Include test bed Systems and emulator or simulator of systems Support to preparatory activities in the course of defining and setting up new programme elements and the related programmatic frameworks. Support in the creation of information packages to Decision Makers and industrial partners. Support in the creation of internal or external decision documents e.g. proposals to the ESA programme boards throughout the relevant project lifetime. Identification and characterisation of new services and applications. Support to other projects or Directorates of ESA for the definition and operational assessment of applications and services. Support to standardisation activities in specific areas. Monitoring of and reporting about activities in other ARTES Elements or other relevant programmes including EC programmes. Initiation, preparation and running promotion activities, like workshops with Industry, other agencies or National Delegation as well as media related activities e.g. webarticles. Initiation of andor participation in international working groups. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory PhD or Masters degree in Engineering from a recognised Institution of secondary studies or equivalent, with at least 4 years of relevant working experience. Relevant experience in aerospace or telecommunications. Experience in an international team. Very good interpersonal skills. Excellent planning and organisational skills, with a proactive attitude. Ability to work effectively in a matrix structure. Very good communication skills, including the ability to draft technical reports. Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Proven capabilities in preparation of programmatic frameworks requiring system and strategic thinking. Experience in System Test Bed End to End. Relevant experience in System requirements analysis, design, implementation and operations, and associated management experience. Sound knowledge of the overall space market. Engineer, Spacecraft Subsystem Telecommunication Payload Luxembourg Betzdorf Your Job The Engineer, Spacecraft Subsystem Telecommunication Payload ensures six sigma satellite payload availability by providing specialized engineering expertise in telecommunication payload in all phases of a satellite life cycle from satellite specification to build phase and operations. You are responsible to ensure that satellite health and safety is maintained all along its life cycle. You plan, coordinate and perform required RF transponder testing and preparing and executing the required procedures for nominal operation and payload recovery in case of anomalies. Your Responsibilities Provide primary support for inorbit fleet telecommunication payload operations Support satellite operations activity through payload procedure development, training, limitsalerts review and data trending Review and maintain satellite operational documentation for communication subsystem for inorbit fleet Support the anomaly management process through anomaly reviews, corrective action development and payload performance analysis for the inorbit fleet Provide 247on call support during payload system testing and during spacecraft operating life for anomaly resolution Maintain technical interface with Satellite Manufacturer and Spacecraft Operations to ensure proper communications of requirements, performance and anomaly resolution for payload subsystem Participate in design reviews, satellite test activities and review of payload technical documentation in preparation for start of service for new satellites Travel as required Your Profile Masters Degree or equivalent, with a specialization which includes telecommunication or Satellite Communications Systems Understanding of payload architecture, design and manufacturing RF equipment, repeater and antenna subsystem Link budget Repeater RF performance measurement Integration and testing Quality control essentials Some High Throughput Satellite Engineering knowledge will be an asset Ability to work day to day inorbit fleet issues and operations with other members of space operations and space engineering teams Excellent communications skills both written and oral Strong computer software skills required Whats in it for you?
