The report, "Wide Open: How the Panama Canal Is Redrawing the Logistics Map," said the canal's $5 billion expansion will permanently alter the competitive balance between ports on the East and West coasts.

The Port of New Orleans is trying to draw more container traffic by building on its relationship with Canadian National Railway. Multiple media outlets report that port president and CEO Gary LaGrange announced on Wednesday that the two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to increase their work together.
