Three Irelands 5G network goes live

Today, Three Ireland has announced the switching on of its 5G network across the nation.    Around 315 base stations have been deployed so far, giving a total coverage of around 35% of the Irish population. 3 UK invests GBP 100 million to boost 4G, 5G network coverage

(Telecompaper) 3 UK has announced a GBP 100 million infrastructure investment agreement with SSE Enterprise Telecoms to boost connectivity across 250 UK towns and cities. The agreement will deliver 3 UK's 5G network to hundreds of locations, as well as improving the 4G service to provide increased capacity and reliability.

KDDI, Samsung demo network slicing in 5G standalone network

(Telecompaper) Japanese operator KDDI, in cooperation with Samsung, has demonstrated network slicing in a 5G standalone network (5G SA). KDDI says this is "the world's first successful demonstration of the generation of end-to-end network slicing where the RIC defined by the O-RAN Alliance is used to control network slicing".

1&1 Drillisch cuts EBITDA forecast on Telefonica network prices, considers damages claim

(Telecompaper) Germany's 1&1 Drillisch said it has revised its EBITDA forecast for 2020 downwards to approximately EUR 600 million from EUR 683.5 million, due to a price increase under its MBA MVNO agreement with Telefonica. The MBA MVNO agreement is a remedy by the EU Commission relating to the merger of E-Plus with Telefonica. Prices for voice services per minute and data prices per gigabyte from July 2020 and for the following years are higher, according to Drillisch, and Telefonica is applying them without taking into account the agreement in their negotiations.
