IDC cuts smartphone growth forecast on China slowdown

(Telecompaper) IDC has cut its forecast for global smartphones sales this year, due to the slowdown in China. It now expects annual growth of 10.4 percent to shipments of 1.44 billion smartphones, down from its previous forecast of 11.3 percent growth in 2015. China is the world's largest smartphone market, good for almost a third of phones sold last year. However, growth in China is expected to slow to just 1.2 percent this year, from 19.7 percent in 2014, as the market matures in line with the pattern seen in many Western countries. China is expected to still remain the largest market for smartphone volumes throughout IDC's forecast period, but its share will fall to an estimated 23.1 percent in 2019 as other markets like India continue to expand.

Worldwide WLAN Market Shows Slowed Growth in First Quarter of 2015, According to IDC

The combined consumer and enterprise worldwide wireless local area network market segments increased 0.6% year over year in the first quarter of 2015 . According to preliminary results published in the International Data Corporation Worldwide Quarterly WLAN Tracker , the enterprise segment's growth slowed significantly compared to preceding quarters, increasing just 3.0% over the same period last year.
IDC cuts tablet market forecast, sees drop of 3.8% in 2015

(Telecompaper) Worldwide shipments of tablets and 2-in-1 devices are forecast to reach 221.8 million units in 2015, a decline of 3.8 percent from 2014, according to the latest forecast from IDC. The new outlook follows two consecutive quarters of declining sales and represents a modest downward revision from the previous forecast of 234.5 million units and 2.1 percent year-over-year growth in 2015. While IDC expects overall sales to decline in 2015, some products are forecast to experience strong growth, such as cellular-capable tablets and 2-in-1 devices. The latter two products still represent a small portion of the entire market, but are expected to grow at a five-year compound annual growth rate of 5.6 percent. Over the same period, the Wi-Fi-only device market is expected to contract at a CAGR of -0.4 percent. IDC also predicts fewer sales of small-screen tablets, dropping to just under half the market in 2019 as phablets become more popular in the smartphone market. This will also impact average selling prices as larger screen devices tend to cost more.
