Global smartphone growth to slow to 11.3% in 2015 - IDC

2015-05-27 09:23:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Overall worldwide smartphone growth is expected to slow further to 11.3 percent in 2015, down from 27.6 percent in 2014, according to the latest data from the International Data Corporation (IDC). Although the researcher is sticking to its forecast of 1.9 billion annual shipments by 2019, the previous forecast of 11.8 percent growth in 2015 has been revised down slightly due in part to saturation in the Chinese smartphone market. In fact, 2015 will be the first year that China's smartphone growth (just 2.5 percent) will be slower than the worldwide market. Android smartphone growth is also expected to be slower than the worldwide market at 8.5 percent in 2015 due to the fact that China accounts for around 36 percent of total Android smartphone shipments.

Samsung's phablet dominance swiped away in Taiwan: IDC

2015-04-20 00:02:42| Electronics - Topix.net

Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest smartphone maker, is losing its dominance in Taiwan's phablet market after rivals launched more big-screen handsets larger than 5.5 inches, according to data research firm IDC. The South Korea electronics giant garnered more than 80 percent of phablet shipments in Taiwan in 2013 thanks to its successful Galaxy Note series, but its share plunged to 33 percent last year in the face of mounting competition from Apple Inc. and smaller players, IDC said in a recent report.

Global PC sales down 6.7% to 68.5 mln in Q1 IDC

2015-04-10 09:09:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Worldwide PC shipments fell by 6.7 percent year-on-year to around 68.5 million units in the first quarter, according to the latest data from IDC. Although the drop in sales is slightly ahead of IDC's earlier predictions for the quarter, it still represents the lowest recorded volume since the first quarter of 2009. The results contrasts with a strong second half of 2014 and can be attributed to inventory build-up of Windows Bing based notebooks, commercial slowdown following the XP refresh and constrained demand in many regions due to currency fluctuations and unfavorable economic indicators, said IDC.
