You will independently complete all tasks required, in the allocated time, to demonstrate that the structure design meets its strength and stiffness requirements. You will lead major project with assistance. Limited signoff. You have complete knowledge of analysis methods and processes to lead an analysis team. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include To identify all strength and stiffness requirements and ensure that they are valid. To perform or supervise all structural analysis necessary to ensure that all strength and stiffness requirements are met with a minimum mass design. To ensure that the design incorporates all features necessary to meet the strength and stiffness requirements. To provide a detailed definition of all structural testing required to verify that the strength and stiffness requirements are met. To monitor these tests and issue a test assessment report that demonstrates that requirements have been met and that the pretest analysis was of sufficient accuracy. Write clear and concise strength summary reports demonstrating adequate strength margins for all significant possible modes of failure. Write other associated analysis documentation. Provide design support to manufacture to ensure that strength and stiffness requirements are met for all nonconformances to design with appropriate corrective action. To present strength and stiffness analyses and test requirements and assessments at formal design reviews. To prepare and maintain work plans, schedules, work package descriptions and costs. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or similar related discipline with working experience in the Space, Aerospace industry Strong experience in Stress Analysis, detailed stressing. Strong hand calculation experience for lightweight structures is mandatory for this role Good understanding of analysis techniques and methods for light weight structures strength and stiffness prediction Experience in Finite Element Analysis Ability to write clear and concise strength summary reports and other associated analysis documentation Able to establish and execute work plan and cost estimate, with assistance, for projects. Our space client based in Northern Ireland is looking for an experienced stress engineer to work on a project for a 5kW Thruster. The engineer must have previous experience of working within the space industry. Job Description We are looking for someone who can do both detailed stress analysis using hand calculations and FE modelling, with good metallic lightweight structure experience. The work is on Space Thruster Technology. Skills Identify all strength and stiffness requirements and ensure that they are valid. Perform all structural analysis necessary to ensure that all strength and stiffness requirements are met with a minimum mass design. Provide a detailed definition of all structural testing required to verify that the strength and stiffness requirements are met. Monitor these tests and write a test assessment report that demonstrates that requirements have been met and that the analysis was of sufficient accuracy. Ensure that the design incorporates all features necessary to meet the strength and stiffness requirements. To be conversant with and to apply as appropriate, analysis techniques and methods for light weight structures strength and stiffness prediction that are generally common to aircraft structures analysis. These will include classical hand analysis and computer techniques including the use of the industry standard NASTRAN finite element programme with FEMAP or possibly PATRAN and other pre and post processing software. Able to write clear and concise strength summary reports demonstrating adequate strength margins for all significant possible modes of failure. Write other associated analysis documentation. Provide design support to manufacture to ensure that strength and stiffness requirements are met for all nonconformances to design with appropriate corrective action. Qualifications and Skills Nastran and Patran are required and desirable skills would be the use and experience of MathCAD and Femap. Previous Experience Essential demonstrable experience in lightweight metallic structures engineering and detailed stress. Demonstrable experience of detailed stress analysis via FE Modelling and Hand Calculations. Ideal would be experience of composites materials and design.
