Senior Linux System Administration Engineer Sentinel3 mf Ref.Nr. 158521 The Mission Our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, is preparing for the operations of the Copernicus Sentinel3 mission. The mission is to measure seasurface topography, sea and landsurface temperature and ocean and landsurface colour with highend accuracy and reliability in support of ocean forecasting systems, and for environmental and climate monitoring. The first of two Sentinel3 spacecraft is planned to be launched in mid2015. The Challenge We are looking for an experienced Linux System Administration Engineer who will be working at our customers site, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. As a member of the Computer and Storage Management team, you will provide support for Sentinel3 Ground Segment Commissioning and Routine Operations. The duties range from the support to the operation of the Linuxbased ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. Tasks to be performed include installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance analysis, planning and performance of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between subsystems monitoring of the system performance, investigation into HW and system SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backup procedures liaison with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions administration of user accounts support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades provision of standbyoncall support provision of support, as required, to critical operations generate and maintain documentation. This may comprise writing and reviewing requirement and design specifications, change proposals, preparing documents supporting procurements, reviewing data packages belonging to technical inspections and reviews, writing and reviewing IT architecture and design, writing design evaluation reports, writingreviewing reports, test reports and overall status reports perform the activities in applying the relevant change control and maintenance procedures In the performance of these tasks, you will apply the EUMETSA T configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. The position includes the need for oncall standby support. This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in May 2015. Interviews at the customer site for the position are planned between 9th and 20th March. Your Qualifications In addition to having a university degree or equivalent, you will have at least 5 years experience of assessing and administrating computer systems and be very experienced in IT system design. Your experience will have been made in an operational or production environment, driven by high availability requirements.
