Specific tasks to be performed The work includes design and analysis of radio navigation systems, with emphasis on system architecture and performance. The principal tasks and responsibilities will include Support to GALILEO System level engineering activities, covering requirements engineering, maintenance of System Technical Requirements Baseline, assessment of baseline evolutions DCPsDCNs, and assessment of contractors Deviations and Waivers. In particular for Galileo, participation in studies and simulations for the assessment of system endtoend functionalities and performance. Contribution to Systemlevel Reviews. Support to the update of interface documentation, ensuring coherence with the segments. Support to the monitoring of industrial contracts for the development of radio navigation tools and equipment and studies on radio navigation, including generating technical requirements and statements of work and reviewing relevant documentation. General tasks to be performed Radio Navigation system GPS, GLONASS, GALILEO etc. and augmentation EGNOS, WAAS, QZSS etc.. The work includes studies analyses and testing of navigation systemssegmentselementstechnology, dissemination and navigation algorithms, including tools development evaluation of NavigationPositioningTiming algorithm and techniques, usersystemsegment performance assessment based on software simulators, laboratory and field measurements, and support to ESA projects in follow up of industrial procurements. Radio Navigation equipment covering space applications. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of navigationpositioningrangingmonitoring technology and receiver for space. Radio Navigation space applications performed at ESA include scientific applications atmospheric sounding, oceanic observation, formation flying, rendezvous and attitude determination. Radio Navigation equipment for terrestrial applications. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of navigation receiverstechnology for terrestrial applications and local augmentation. Radio Navigation terrestrial applications performed at ESA are those related with high performance based on high accuracy e.g. geodesy andor high integrity e.g. civil aviation, maritime. Radio Navigation signals and signal processing. The work includes study, design, analysis and testing of signal and signal processing techniques including toolsequipment development and procurement. It encompasses signal structure, modulations, data dissemination, techniques for error correction, synchronisation, multipath mitigation and estimation, interference mitigation, cancellation, encryption, authentication, etc. Radio Navigation Laboratory equipment. The work includes definition procurement design, testing, usage of Radio Navigation equipment in support to Radio Navigation experiments and test campaigns. Assistance in preparation of invitation to tenders related to ESA Projects and RD activities and contracts technical followup. Specific engineering support to space projects developed by ESA andor by major European industriesoperators. Validation of designs by means of analyses, simulations, laboratory testing and field trials possibly in cooperation with third parties. Design, implementation and testing tasks for technological projects. Execution of internal RD activities through design, prototyping, analysis and simulations. Simulation and testing in laboratory of Navigation systems and equipment. Preparation of technical documents on above subjects. Support to related demonstrations inside and outside ESTEC. To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background experience is required MSc or PhD in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or Computer Science, as well as at least 4 years of relevant experience. Strong knowledge on the design of satellite navigation systems, ranging and positioning techniques, RF and microwave systems, navigation system mission monitoring, and GNSS processing facilities. Knowledge of payload engineering and platform systems. Several years of experience relevant with the GNSS and GALILEO systems and equipment and good knowledge of Radio Navigation processing, simulation and testing systems would be a strong advantage. Specialist in the implementation, maintenance and operation of complex Radio Navigation processing, simulation and test facilities for spacecraft, aircraft, maritime and land mobile applications. Knowledge on EGNOS Overlay System including the extension to GALILEO support and associated integrity functions familiarity with SafetyOfLife systems familiarity with Advanced RAIM ARAIM techniques and with RTKPPP techniques. Familiarity with authentication and encryption techniques that could be relevant to expected GALILEO OSCS evolutions in these domains. Able to manage and coordinate complex technical discussions with diverse groups to achieve target goals within a compressed time. Summary An opportunity for an experienced engineer to work onsite at ESTEC for Telespazio VEGA UK, providing support to the RF System Division Laboratory. Objective To provide support to the RF Division with the expertise to perform test campaigns of GNSS or Telecom Receivers. Responsibilities Duties Depending on the profile of the candidate, duties will include but are not limited to Support to RF System division laboratory. General laboratory support such as, scheduled maintenance, replacement of consumables, and design of mechanical housings and test jigs for RF circuits. Development of control software using LabviewVEE for automated monitoring and control of test beds or instruments. Organisation and maintenance of laboratory library, which includes documentation operating manuals, test reports and general documentation. Operation, maintenance and calibration of the laboratory equipment and test facilities. Maintain up to date divisional equipment inventory list, which involves using of dedicated software for tractability and control of inventory including lent out equipment.
