Dutch NFC payments advance in 2015

(Telecompaper) The number of contactless payments grew strongly in 2015, the Dutch Payments Association said in its annual report for the year. Each month recorded growth of about 25 percent from the year before for the average number of NFC transactions. More consumers are using contactless debit cards while the number of transactions from a smartphone is growing slowly.

Microsoft previews contactless payments on Wallet app

(Telecompaper) Microsoft has released a 'tap to pay' feature in its latest update to Windows 10 Mobile. The feature is part of the Microsoft Wallet app and allows customers to use their Windows smartphone to pay at the point of sale. It will be available initially in the US with the Lumia 950, 950 XL and 650, and usable in over a million retail locations with contactless terminals. The Microsoft Wallet app can also store a range of loyalty and customer cards and facilitates payments across Microsoft services such as Xbox, Office and Windows. Microsoft works with Mastercard and Visa and a range of banks and credit unions to support the Wallet app. The 'tap to pay' feature is initially available to 'Windows Insiders' testing the latest build of the operating system.

Facebook starts payments trial in Thailand w/ 2C2P - report

(Telecompaper) Facebook has started a new trial in Southeast Asia that allows users to pay for products listed on Facebook Pages with just a few clicks, TechCrunch reported, citing sources with knowledge of the trial. Qwik, a product powered by Southeast Asia-based fintech company 2C2P, allows users to make payment via a credit card, debit card or bank transfer online, according to numerous sources with knowledge of the trial. Facebook and 2C2P both declined to comment.
