Last week in telecoms: M&A developments at TIM, Forthnet, others boost TP stock index

(Telecompaper) The European telecoms sector had a positive week. The Telecompaper telecoms index rose by 1.1 percent during week 14, just shy of the EuroStoxx 50's gain of 1.4 percent. Satellite company Intelsat (+36%) and Greek challenger Forthnet (+18%), a takeover candidate, were the biggest winners. TIM (+11%) benefitted from an ongoing battle for its management, with CDP buying a 5 percent stake and Elliott raising its stake to 10 percent.

Last week in telecoms: Vodafone and Orange drag on index, biggest losses at Iliad and MegaFon

(Telecompaper) Two stocks stood out last week for being hit very hard: Iliad (-13%) and MegaFon (-15%). Iliad's results worried investors, as its internationalisation to Italy and Ireland appears to be on track. MegaFon also dropped on Q4 results. The best performing stocks were mobile operator Turkcell (+4.2%), after results and an upwards revision of its guidance, satellite operator SES (+4.7%) and data centre operator Equinix (+6.3%). Microcaps QSC (+4.4%) and CityFibre (+4.5%) also had a strong week.

Last week in telecoms: TIM, Cellnex and German consolidation talk push up telecoms index 3.1%

(Telecompaper) Last week saw a solid performance for the European telecoms sector. Apart from a few stocks the vast majority ended week 10 up. Double digit gains were scored by TIM (+15%) and Cellnex (+11%), the former responding positively to news of the company accepting a fixed network spin-off and the latter venturing into the Swiss IoT market. Our European Telecoms Index closed the week up 3.1 percent, just ahead of the EuroStoxx 50 Index (+2.9%).

Mobile Video Index: Facebook Video is poised to overtake YouTube

Openwave Mobility has released the latest findings from its Mobile Video Index (MVI). The study found that while YouTube remains the most popular for mobile video, Facebook is rapidly closing the gap in some markets and has even overtaken YouTube in others.
