US apparel imports have been relatively flat in the first quarter with China however rebounding thanks to a new fall of its unit prices. Other origins have got very different results depending on product categories as usual, with a rise of unit values resulting in lower sales in volume terms. Our series of statistical tables offer a comprehensive comparison of volume, value and unit value changes per origin and product category in 1st quarter 2017 and 1st quarter 2018. The report also includes a detailed comparison of Chinese price trends vs other origins, through a series of indexes. China has again been able to lower its unit prices in full last year and to relatively preserve its share of the US apparel import market, as a result. Unit values of other origins have also dropped, including from Bangladesh or Cambodia with results widely different depending on product categories, as usual. Unit prices of US apparel imports have continued dropping in the first three quarters this year, with however sharp differences depending on product categories and origins. The average export price has for instance more declined in China than in most other countries. US buyers have also been able to cut the prices of products from many other origins, although less dramatically.
