About this opportunity We are looking for an enthusiastic astronomer to join our team working on the development of the Square Kilometre Array Observatory SKAO. Construction of the SKAO will start later this year and, when complete, it will be the worlds most sensitive radio telescope. Your role will be as a Product Owner in the development and delivery of the SKAO Observatory Science Operations tools. You will bring significant scientific experience in observational astronomy. In joining our local team and international partners, you will shape the ways in which the SKAO will be used and steer development of the required software. You will also contribute more broadly to the scientific activities at the UKATC, including development of future projects and investigating applications of our technologies to other fields. You will be expected to pursue your own research programme in an area reflecting the science priorities of projects in development at the UKATC. Summary Exciting opportunity for an experienced climate researcher to join the Telespazio UK team, and lead the set up and execution of a brand new international project office IPO for the CoupledModel Intercomparison Project CMIP, in a role colocated with ESA Climate Office at ECSAT. Objective This prestigious post will to support and advance the governance, infrastructure and outcome of CMIP through establishing an international project office. The CMIPIPO is expected to be the focal point for leading national and international entities in climate modelling, coordinating independent international teams and projects working toward a common goal. A more prominent role is foreseen for CMIP in bringing models and observations closer together, and aims to Better understand past, present and future climate changes arising from natural and anthropogenic changes Assess model performance in the past and future, including the representation in models Investigate predictability of the climate system on various time and space scales as well as making predictions from observed climate states Make multimodel output publically available in a standardized format Carry out work as directed by the Working Group on Coupled Modelling WGCM CMIPIPO operates under overall guidance of relevant CMIP governing bodies WGCM, CMIP Panel, WIP, and in close coordination with the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee JSC and Head WCRP Secretariat Responsibilities Duties The successful individual will be expected to Lead and drive the new CMIPIPO building the team, acting as a focal point for the leading national and international entities in climate modelling worldwide Ensure that the CMIPIPO fulfils its terms of reference under the overall guidance of CMIP governing bodies and in consultation with the World Climate Research Programme WCRP Secretariat Manage the CMIPIPO activities and office staff Attend the sessions of CMIP governing bodies and other meetings and represents CMIP at relevant national and international meetings Ensure that the budget is used at the discretion of CMIP leadership in compliance with ESA legal framework, in particular its financial rules and regulations and WMO regulations and auditing as appropriate Mobilize financial and inkind resources from various sources to cover CMIP activities and additional CMIPIPO staff as well as the administration and management of such resources Recruit, and support, CMIPIPO staff according to the applicable legal frameworks Qualifications Experience PhD, or equivalent qualification, in Physics, Earth Sciences or related scientific discipline. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree or equivalent experience. At least 3 years of demonstrable experience. Technical specialist in Defence Space and PNT preferred. Understanding of modern technologies such as AIML, Quantum, Blockchain, Software platform architecture and development, etc. Programming experience in Python. Exceptional timemanagement, facilitation and organisational skills. Ability to effectively communicate at all levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent skills in MS EXCEL and numerical reasoning. Extremely motivated individual who is a selfstarter and a team player. Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings. Proven proposal writing experience. Experienced with PMO and service delivery process. Willing to travel when required. Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
